School starts

Yes... today Devin did his first pages in his first grade books! I was going to wait until Labor Day weekend was over to begin his school but he was just so excited when he heard he got new books he wanted to start right away, so we did some pages today.
I'm going with the ACE home schooling program. I did it last year with him and he did very well and enjoyed it too. Here's a little bit about it.
"Accelerated Christian Education know as ACE, has taken the conventional textbook and divided it into bite-sized, achievable, worktexts called PACEs. Each PACE is more or less equivalent to a chapter in a textbook. Each level consists of 12 PACEs in each subject.

PACEs integrate character-building lessons into the academic content and are carefully designed to develop thinking skills and create mastery learning. Students begin their PACE work by reciting their goals-the concepts they will learn, a Bible verse, and a corresponding character trait. From the very beginning they know what is expected and they assume the responsibility for their own learning!
From its beginning, Accelerated Christian Education has maintained high Biblical and academic standards and remained committed to setting children on a path for success. The goal is the same today: to prepare children for the world today and give them the academic and spiritual tools necessary to achieve their God-given potential.
Accelerated Christian Education's concepts are based on the following Five Basic Laws of Learning:
  • A child must be at a level where he can perform.
  • He must have reasonable goals.
  • His learning must be controlled, and he must be motivated.
  • His learning must be measurable.
  • His learning must be rewarded."

Hey that is cool... I have just finished getting my older 2 girls set up to start ACE too. Olivia and Kiona are excited about starting on Tuesday. I am very pleased with what I have seen about this school program. I had to do the placements tests a for a few days and that was tough as I have never done placement tests before- as I have only had them in Abeka books for 1st and 2nd grades, but this is neat. The kids did real good in their tests, and they are excited about starting. GBY Marieane, Tim and I are keeping you in our daily prayers- for your health and strength. Maya
